Bait shops in Florida are always saying to use live shrimp. Well, I found something else and have had tremendous success with the Berkley Gulp! Shrimp bait.

Alive!" target="_blank">Every bait shop I enter into around the Gulf of Florida, the fishing experts tell me to use live shrimp for bait. So, I buy my shrimp and go out fishing off piers, docks, and boats. My results have been very limited in the size and how often I hook a fish. Today, I was talking to my next door neighbor who loves to fish from his boat and he provided me with his testimonial of a new bait fish to try.

A few weeks ago he bought the Berkley Gulp! Shrimp and live shrimp bait fish. He started the day with the live shrimp bait fish and after a few hours, nothing was biting. He decided to give his new Berkley Gulp! Shrimp bait fish a try. He recants, “The minute I put the Berkley Gulp! Shrimp bait fish in the water, the fish hit the bait the moment it touched the water”.

Then, being a curious fellow that he is, he went back to the live shrimp bait fish. He really wanted to test his thought about the effectiveness of the Berkley Gulp! Shrimp. Again, he couldn’t even buy a hit from a bucket of fish. After another hour of trying to entice the fish to just a little nibble of the live shrimp bait, he had to go back to the Berkley Gulp! Shrimp. Just like before, he started to reel in red and snapper one right after the other.

The next day, he went again to test his new found theory regarding his bait fish. Again, the results were exactly the same as they were the day before. The fish couldn’t stop hitting on the Berkley Gulp! Shrimp and wouldn’t touch the live shrimp bait whatsoever.

Additional testimonial from Bass Pro Shop Customer web site:

“No joke. This stuff is better than the Gulp in the packs. I fish it for reds with a jighead by just slowly twitching it on the bottom. I fish it under a popping cork for seatrout. They are durable enough that you can throw them back into the bucket to recharge them with scent. You can also throw all your other Gulp baits in there to make them more potent”.

So what makes the fish hook-up on this bait fish, I don’t know. My neighbor showed me the solution in the bucket and it doesn’t look special to me. Of course, I’m not a fish, but it will be part of my tackle on my fishing trip next weekend. I will post my findings later next week. Let me know your comments here on the site.
