The concert we taped was in a very large student center. I had to place the JVC Everio digital video camera approximately 75-80 feet away from the stage. The room was very dimly lite with florescent lights. The digital video camera performed remarkable well. The picture was clear enough when viewed on a 46″ flat screen TV ( See Sony Bravia product review ).

Capturing the performance from the JVC Everio with the Pinnacle Studio Version 12was a breeze. I used the DV connection available on the JVC Everio docking station to the computer. Windows XP PNP picked up the digital video camera without any problems. Pinnacle also had no problems finding the video camera as well. Once I captured the video to the computer, it was very simple to drag and drop the clips and transitions during the editing process. Once I had that complete, it was time to burn a DVD and MPEG-4. This all happened seamlessly with the settings available within the Pinnacle Studio 11.0 Ultimate software.

I can see where this can become addicting. I love being able to create my own movies. I know, they look very corny now, but I will get better. You will see. Also, I’m thinking of investing into a shotgun microphone for those long distance audio recordings.

This product is really easy to use to transfer VHS tapes to your hard drive. Then with all the video editing tools available, you start creating your own movie. The tools are easy to drag and drop. I do recommend the Ultimate 11.0 version as it provides a host of bonus tools such effects, transitions, and title pages to produce your own movie.

This software is Windows XP and Vista compliant. Some of the extra tools enable you to upload video to the web or generate your own Flash, AVI, or MPEG file formats. This is great for you web site, YouTube, and other Internet video sites.

The one thing you will need with this is the Dazzle as shown in the right. This USB 1.1 or 2.0 connector enables you to connect your VHS camera or player to your computer. To ensure your Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 11.0 can communicate with the Dazzle, go to Pinnacle’s web site and download the latest drivers. The file is easy to install and is seamless in enabling communication between the software, your computer, and your VHS camera.

The process to transfer VHS to your hard drive can be configured to provide scene breaks whenever the file goes black or you can set it to a specified time period. The transitions and effects are as simple as drag-n-drop controls.
